A consortium led by E.ON has secured €45 million in European funding to expand electric vehicle (EV) and commercial truck charging infrastructure across Europe. The DRIVE-E Global project aims to install 1,400 new charging points in 13 countries, with 430 designated for heavy-duty electric trucks. The project is set for completion in 2027 and will strengthen the charging network along key transport corridors.
Selected as one of 39 innovative projects by the EU, DRIVE-E focuses on developing infrastructure for alternative fuels, particularly public charging points with a capacity of 350 kW or more. Notable partners include E.ON, ZSE, and Eldrive, who will create a strategically located network along major trans-European freight routes.
Charging locations will span over 250 sites in countries including Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia. The initiative is co-funded by the EU's Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) II, which has a total budget of €1 billion, aiming to enhance the charging infrastructure across the trans-European transport network.
