ENGIE Romania announces the signing of a strategic agreement to acquire a wind farm with an installed capacity of 253.1 MW, developed by Greenvolt Power, part of the Greenvolt Group. The project, located in Ialomița County, benefits from excellent wind conditions and long-term financial stability, recently secured through a Contract for Difference (CfD).
This investment represents a major step in ENGIE Group’s strategy to expand its renewable energy capacity in Romania. Currently under construction, the project includes 42 high-efficiency turbines and is set to become one of the largest wind farms in the country, expected to be fully operational by 2027.
With this acquisition, ENGIE Romania doubles its renewable energy production capacity to 500 MW and strengthens its position in the green energy market in Romania. Additionally, the company has secured a CfD for the financing of two new projects—one wind and one solar—with a total capacity of 224 MW. All these initiatives contribute to the goal of surpassing 1 GW of installed renewable energy and storage capacity by 2030.
“With this acquisition, ENGIE makes significant steps in developing its green energy portfolio in Romania, doubling its installed capacity and consolidating its position in a market with remarkable potential. We are proud to support, through concrete actions, the country’s transition to clean energy,” stated Cristian Buzan, Vice President of ENGIE Romania.
João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, emphasized: “Greenvolt’s ability to develop and implement high-quality renewable energy projects is demonstrated by this wind farm, contributing both to European and Romanian energy transition.”
