Industry Leaders and Policymakers Convene For African Solar Energy Forum 2019 Conference

The first edition of the African Solar Energy Forum, hosted by MJDVent International Limited, held at the Golden Tulip Airport hotel, Accra, Ghana on October 16 – 17, 2019.
The African Solar Energy Forum conference is an annual event where business leaders and policymakers discuss possible strategies that could spur growth in the continent’s solar industry.

Themed Africa: Investment Destination for Harvesting and Utilising Renewable Energy, this year’s conference was an avenue for all stakeholders to discuss and share how solar energy, an under-utilised energy source on the continent can be utilised to meet the rapidly growing energy demand, lower the emission of greenhouse gases, and generate returns on investments.
The lofty aim was to facilitate interaction between industry regulators and players to identify opportunities within the industry in order to collectively move Africa towards low-carbon businesses. It was also a platform for connecting with development organisations and learn crucial success factors.

Chief Technical Officer of Viridian Solar, Dr K.T. Tan, who was the chairman of the conference delivered a case study session on “technology-agnostic approach and solutions on optimisation of solar assets” at the event.

He spoke extensively about the emerging PV technologies, the benefits of these technologies and the present risk and opportunity to the optimisation of these solar assets.
He also touched on the latest developments in PV module cleaning and coating. And also how to adequately examine performance monitoring of solar systems by using the latest drone technologies.

Highlighting the potential for growth in Africa solar industry, Dr Tan said, “this conference was able to get all the major players in the solar industry. Put them together in one room which I think is quite important for the African market. For a market that is in its infancy we need to get all the major to talk about what the problems or difficulties are in order to overcome. So we can increase the employment opportunities”.

The conference later broke into a panel discussion sessions where participants interacted with panelists on comprehensive energy policies for the development and the deployment of solar systems in Africa.

Speaking after the event, Founder/CEO of Wavetra Energy, Peter Ojike said the conference was engaging and provided a platform that allows all participants share their opinions and suggest ways of improving subsequent event.

The conference didn’t culminate without a networking session where speakers and delegates engaged in further interaction over coffee and lunch breaks.

If you didn’t attend you definitely missed out on a lot.
However, not to worry the African Solar Energy Forum is coming back next year, 2020. Make sure you attend!
