Poland introduces limits on where wind farms can be built

Poland adopted a new law banning the construction of wind farms near housing and also increased costs for these projects, a decision that analysts say could affect Poland's transition from coal to renewable Reuters.

According to a bill passed Friday by the lower house in Warsaw, the distance between homes and new onshore wind turbines will have to be at least 10 times the turbine height, approximately 1.5-2 kilometers. Also, the new regulations will raise property taxes paid by owners of wind turbines, which could cause bankruptcies among operators.

"As a result of this law, the wind turbines will disappear from the Polish landscape," said Wojciech Cetnarski, President of Polish Wind Energy Association.
