TESCO, a leader in metering solutions for electric utilities, has unveiled its latest innovation, the Backup Power Transfer Meter (BPTM), designed to provide homeowners with a safe and automatic means of switching to backup generator power during outages. As occurrences of power interruptions due to extreme weather, grid failures, and public safety shutoffs rise, the demand for reliable backup power solutions has intensified. The BPTM streamlines the process by eliminating the need for manual transfer switches and unsafe extension cords, allowing homeowners to easily connect a portable generator directly at the meter.
"The BPTM is a game-changer for both utilities and homeowners," said Tom Lawton, President and CEO of TESCO.
This utility-approved system ensures compliance with EUSERC standards and protects against dangerous backfeeding, promoting the safety of utility workers and infrastructure. Already implemented by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) in high-risk outage areas, the BPTM enhances grid resilience while improving customer satisfaction.
With fast installation and compatibility with emerging technologies like battery storage and solar inverters, the BPTM is available for nationwide utility deployment.
