Romania. Electric Car Registrations Decline by 17.8% in July 2025 Compared to Last Year, Says DGPCI Data

 


Car registrations of pure electric vehicles (EVs) saw a 17.8% decrease in July 2025 compared to the same month last year, according to data from the General Directorate for Driver’s Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DGPCI), cited by the Association of Car Manufacturers and Importers (APIA) from Romania.

Despite this decline in EV registrations, overall new car registrations increased by 26.2% compared to July 2024. Electrified vehicles experienced a significant growth of 42.4%, capturing a market share of 54%. This segment includes:

- Mild-hybrid electric vehicles (MHEV), which grew by 29%, holding a 23.5% market share.
- Full-hybrid electric vehicles (FHEV), which increased by 69%, with a 20.9% market share.
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), which surged by 87.8%, accounting for 6.3% of the market.
- Battery electric vehicles (BEV), which declined by 17.8%, with a market share of 3.2%.

Additionally, light commercial vehicles and minibuses registered a 12.7% decrease, while heavy vehicles and buses saw a 5.9% decline compared to July 2024.
