In a major strategic development, WALDEVAR Holding has announced the acquisition of Elemo, a renowned high-voltage electrical network specialist with over 30 years of experience, and the launch of a new division — WALDEVAR Power Grid. This move aims to position WALDEVAR as a fully integrated energy infrastructure group capable of managing the entire lifecycle of renewable energy projects, from design and generation to final connection, operation, and maintenance.
Based in Bucharest, Romania, WALDEVAR Holding is a leading turnkey EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) provider for large-scale photovoltaic and hybrid parks. The acquisition of Elemo, now operating under the new brand WALDEVAR Power Grid, marks a significant shift in the regional energy landscape. Elemo’s expertise in high- and very high-voltage power line infrastructure (over 400 kV) will now be fully integrated into WALDEVAR’s portfolio, enabling rapid and efficient grid connection for renewable projects.
This strategic integration addresses one of the biggest hurdles for renewable energy development: grid connection delays. By combining Elemo’s extensive capabilities in overhead power line construction, fiber optic deployment (over 4,000 km of OPGW), helicopter installation, and certifications from the Romanian National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), WALDEVAR is set to accelerate project deployment and reduce risks for investors.
Christian Leonte, CEO of WALDEVAR Holding, emphasized the importance of this milestone: “Building a photovoltaic park is only part of the equation. Fast and secure grid connection is the critical challenge for large-scale projects. With Elemo’s elite expertise and the launch of WALDEVAR Power Grid, we are no longer just an EPC contractor — we are a comprehensive energy infrastructure group. We now have the capabilities and resources to design, build, and connect large photovoltaic projects to the national grid seamlessly, reducing project risks significantly.”
Ioan Popoviciu, General Manager of WALDEVAR Power Grid, highlighted the company’s evolution: “Since 1994, our team has been the unseen technical force behind Romania’s high-voltage infrastructure. Transitioning under the WALDEVAR umbrella gives us the platform and capital to scale our operations, continue serving our traditional clients with engineering rigor, and leverage the logistical strength of a top European group.”
The new entity aims to accelerate interconnection projects by assuming full responsibility for design, construction, and maintenance, eliminating reliance on third-party subcontractors. It combines Elemo’s agility and executional strength with WALDEVAR’s robust financial and logistical backing, positioning itself as a major player for transmission and distribution operators. The company’s proven technical expertise includes over 1,500 km of high-voltage lines, extensive fiber optic networks, complex helicopter installations, and certifications from ANRE (C1 B, D1, D2, E2).
WALDEVAR Holding, headquartered in Bucharest, is a prominent player in renewable energy projects across Romania, Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, and France, with a portfolio exceeding 3.5 GW. The group encompasses various subsidiaries, including WALDEVAR Energy, Floating PV, Operations & Maintenance, Security, Robotics, and charitable initiatives through WALDEVAR Foundation.
WALDEVAR Power Grid, formerly Elemo, is a key contractor specializing in high-voltage power line construction and maintenance, serving major clients such as Transelectrica and Delgaz Grid. With a team of certified specialists and extensive experience, it continues to set standards in Romania’s electrical infrastructure sector.
This strategic move signals WALDEVAR’s commitment to becoming a comprehensive leader in energy infrastructure, driving innovation and efficiency in renewable energy deployment across Europe.
