PPC Group has announced its active participation in the European research initiative SOLARIS, a major step forward in the pursuit of more efficient, reliable, and cost-effective solar power systems across Europe. This ambitious project, co-funded by the Horizon Europe program and coordinated by Danmarks Tekniske Universitet, aims to develop advanced physical and digital tools to revolutionize the operation and maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) plants.
Set to run from 2024 to 2028, SOLARIS focuses on creating an integrated suite of solutions that will enhance forecasting accuracy, improve plant performance, and streamline maintenance procedures. The overarching goal is to increase the operational efficiency and availability of PV facilities while reducing the cost of energy production by 10%. These innovations are expected to significantly advance the deployment of solar energy, making it more competitive and sustainable.
PPC Group is leveraging its “Bitakos” photovoltaic park in Kastro-Lykovouni, a 2.6 MW installation, as a practical testing ground for SOLARIS technologies. By collecting comprehensive data—including meteorological conditions, dust deposition via sensors, energy output records, PV module characteristics, and maintenance activities—PPC aims to validate the effectiveness of the new tools in real operating environments. This hands-on approach ensures that the solutions developed are practical, effective, and directly applicable to existing and future PV plants.
In addition to its technical contributions, PPC is tasked with designing the exploitation strategy for SOLARIS results. This involves developing new business models and conducting market analyses to facilitate the commercial utilization of the project’s innovations. Such efforts aim to create added value for stakeholders, accelerate the adoption of smart solar technologies, and support the broader energy transition across Europe.
Participation in SOLARIS aligns with PPC Group’s strategic vision of integrating digital tools and promoting sustainable energy investments. The company’s transformation into a Powertech Group emphasizes innovation, technological advancement, and continuous efficiency improvements. The insights gained from SOLARIS, alongside other projects like TWINVEST, RAIDO, DCFlex, and XTRUST-6G, reinforce PPC’s commitment to leading Greece and Europe toward a cleaner, more efficient energy future.
As the energy landscape evolves, projects like SOLARIS exemplify how technological innovation can address key challenges in renewable energy deployment. PPC Group’s involvement underscores its dedication to advancing solar power technology and fostering sustainable growth. With the successful integration of these new tools, the company aims to set new standards for PV plant performance and contribute meaningfully to Europe's renewable energy targets.
PPC Group is Greece’s foremost electricity provider, committed to sustainable development and technological innovation. Through active participation in pioneering projects, PPC continues to push the boundaries of renewable energy, ensuring a brighter, greener future for all.
